Foreign Affairs Welcome EU Resolution Calling for the Stop of War on Yemen

The Foreign Ministry welcomed the efforts of the European Parliament for its condemnation of attacks against civilians and infrastructure, according to a recent resolution adopted by Parliament on the situation in Yemen.
According to Saba news agency, an official source welcomed the European Parliament’s resolution calling for a cessation of hostilities in Yemen, warning that any renewed military assaults on Hodeidah province well be face consequences. The resolution also called for the reopening of airports and seaports, in addition, to establish a safe and rapid access to humanitarian aid, foodstuffs, commercials, and medical supplies.
The ministry concurs with MEP’s vision that the only solution in Yemen is the political solution, urging it to stop the current escalation and resume peace talks under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen.
The ministry calls upon the European Parliament to urge the Saudi-led aggression and the other parties involved with it to work in lifting the embargo imposed on Yemen.
Moreover, the ministry of foreign affairs asked the European Parliament’s for launching a European initiative to halt arms sales to Saudi Arabia, calling upon MEPs to refrain from selling arms and any military equipment to Saudi Arabia and the UAE or any member participating in the war on Yemen.
The ministry expressed the gratefulness of the Government of National Salvation for the efforts accomplished by the European Parliament on the Yemeni issue, calling on EU parliamentarians to visit Yemen to get a clear picture of the situation.
The Yemeni foreign ministry called on the European Union to continue its attempts in achieving peace in Yemen and to increase the humanitarian support for Yemen, especially in light of the deterioration of the economic situation due to the start of an economic war by the Saudi-led aggression, who seek in starving the Yemeni people.
The ministry asserted that it supports the Government of Salvation to hold a new round of consultations led by the UN Secretary-General’s envoy to Yemen in the framework of the efforts of the UN envoy and the international community to end the Saudi aggression and its imposed siege, in addition, to alleviate the unprecedented humanitarian crisis suffered by the Yemeni people.
Last Thursday, the European Parliament condemned the continuation of the war on Yemen and the violations against civilians, calling on Saudi Arabia to immediately stop clashes and lift the embargo and to ban the sale of weapons and Internet monitoring technology to the UAE.
The Parliament stressed that only a political and negotiated solution in Yemen can restore peace and preserve the unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the country.
In a resolution adopted at a meeting in Strasbourg, eastern France, MEPs called on all countries at the international and regional levels to engage constructively with the Yemeni parties in order to ease the conflict and reach a negotiated settlement.
The resolution also stressed the support of UN envoy, Martin Griffith’s efforts to re-launch the political process and give him full and unrestricted access to all areas of Yemen.
A member of the European parliment said that the solutin was especially given to EU countries who are still not respecting this measure, an example of these countries are the UK, France, Sweden, and Spain.
“Airstrikes and lethal weapons against civilians have been used daily and have already caused thousands of deaths as well as the suffering of millions more from extreme famine,” Vallina concluded.
The UK along with the US have been backing up the Saudi aggression on Yemen in many ways, this includes the selling of coordinated bombs and giving logistical assistance, in addition to aerial refueling of Saudi-led fighters.
According to PressTV, the largest arms suppliers to Riyadh are the US with $8.4 billion worth of sales since 2014, followed by the UK ($2.6 billion), and France ($475 million).
